DUpanayana is an elaborate ceremony that included rituals involving the family, the child and the teacher. This ceremony is celebrated in Rishi Gurukulam every year during the Hindu calendar Shravan – Bhadrapada.

This time 15 Hawans for 15 students were set for Upanayanam. It was a grand celebration with Colourful Rangoli, decorated AMC Hall, and gracefully embellished Kitchen area and beautiful ornamental dressing by all.
The ceremony was conducted by a group of priests under the supervision of Ketakima, assisted by Gurukul teachers and senior students. The menu filled the banana leaves with more than 10 items and loaded with a variety of sweets which is called the Maatrubojan.
The thread ceremony was followed by shaving off the hair for boys, keeping a tuft. Finally the emotional bhiksha.
Maatru Biksha’ is an important concluding ritual in Upanayanam. Every mother felt proud of this event.
Thereafter they will start performing Sandhya vandana 3 times a day for sixteen days. Let’s continue to keep up the tradition.
