Experiential Learning is the process of learning by doing. By engaging students in hands-on experiences and reflection, they are better able to connect theories and knowledge learned in the classroom to real-world situations.
When students participate in experiential education opportunities, they gain:
Here in Rishi Gurukulam we strive to provide this experimental learning to all our students which helps develop their communication skills and self-confidence and gain and strengthen decision-making skills by responding to and solving real world problems and processes.
Our teachers here have made their best attempt to enrich our students knowledge in the academic area using this technique. Here are some experiences by our students.
GRADE 5 :
Activity – Fractions
Grade 5 students met at Maths teacher’s house and learnt the topic of fractions with the help of a real pizza baked by students themselves. They cut it into 8 pieces and used them to learn about the concept of fractions and formed pairs of equivalent fractions.
The student then gained clarity on the topic and enjoyed the pizza together later on, and were able to solve sums related to the topic of fractions with ease.
GRADE 6 :
Activity – Integers
Grade 6 students learnt the concept of Integers with the help of stairs! They met up near the stairs of the library area and numbered them from -6 to 10. Their Maths teacher explained them how the number line works and later on asked them some questions, and the students walked up & down to find the answers.
The students thoroughly enjoyed the activity and were later on very confident with the topic of Integers which is a very important topic throughout a person’s life.
GRADE 7 :
Activity – Leaves & Osmosis
Grade 7 students explored the Gurukul for different kinds of leaves with Science teacher and plucked some and mounted them on slides. They then observed them under a microscope to understand the structure of stomata and its placement on terrestrial and aqua leaves. They then tried out the process of osmosis with the help of a potato and learnt about the semi-permeable membrane.
This was a new experience for the students after a long break and after this activity they began comprehending their answers with ease.
GRADE 8 :
Activity – Combustion
Grade 8 students created a bonfire in Aangan area with Science teacher and then observed the various layers of the flames created. They also tested various materials for their level of combustivity and checked the residue produced. They then tried putting out the bonfire with the help of methods mentioned in their book such as a blanket and sand under the supervision of the teacher.
They learnt many new things and understood many much needed safety measures.
